Draftfcb came to us with an idea for a house/car visual that would open and display a view of a modern home interior, for the PG&E ClimateSmart campaign. During our first meeting the discussion revolved around their planned usage for the animation, the desired camera angles and what the final deliverable would be. Once that was established the creative team supplied us with rough line drawing references of a closed and opened sections of a house.

We started by working with the exterior house/car Maya files that were supplied to us by the agency’s broadcast team. While the CG team was building the animation, our retouching team, working from supplied line drawings, began creating the background environment.

The final animation sequence consisted of two separate animations that were composited using Adobe After Effect along with the background image that was produced in Adobe Photoshop. We created an animation of the outside of the house folding and sliding up, and the second animation was of the interior of the house sliding into place. Our CG team created all of the interior objects inside the house.

The final deliverables were 104 .png files that the agency's Flash developer used to create the web animation on the ClimateSmart website. We also delivered 2 high resolution images of the opened house that the Flash developer used to show the magnified details of the house when you mouse over it; and lastly a QuickTime movie as reference for the Flash developer with the animation in motion.
