XYZ Showcases Artwork of Disadvantaged Kids and Teens from the Imagine Bus Project
Hosts Art Exhibit and Event to Highlight the Work of Community-Based Arts Organization
October 20, 2005
San Francisco, CA – XYZ, the West Coast’s most dynamic independent creative retouching and post production studio, today announced that it will host an art exhibit and event to showcase the artwork of disadvantaged kids and teens from the Imagine Bus Project, a community-based arts organization that addresses the current lack of arts education in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The art exhibit will be held at the San Francisco office of XYZ Graphics, located at 270 Brannan Street, and is open for viewing on an appointment-only basis from October 28 through November 4 by calling 415-227-9972 x213. A gala event will be held on Thursday October 27 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm, by invitation only.
”In hosting this exhibit and opening, our goal is to highlight the artwork of children, and to help draw the connection between their creative potential and the creative talent that our industry is based upon,” said Steve Waterloo, President, XYZ Graphics. “As a sponsor of the Imagine Bus Project, we are deep believers in their mission of supporting disadvantaged children in the Bay Area by introducing them to the inspiration of art.”
The exhibit will include works on paper, canvas, and collage, comprising a retrospective of the Imagine Bus Project’s work created in 2004 and 2005. As part of the art exhibit opening and event at XYZ on Thursday, October 27, there will be a live mural creation that will include young adults from the Imagine Bus Project’s Mural Program, which reaches out to incarcerated youth at San Francisco’s Youth Guidance Center. The youth participants that will be present during the event were once incarcerated and are currently working with Eustinove Smith, a muralist, hip-hop artist, and teacher with the Imagine Bus Project, in re-shaping their lives. The live mural demonstration will address the theme “My Mind is My Weapon,” and will be created using Romare Bearden’s collage technique of layering on canvas.
In addition, the art event on October 27 will feature two actual “art buses” located outside the front doors. One of the buses, newly acquired, was made possible by the generous donation of XYZ. Guests will have the opportunity to preview The Imagine Bus Project’s mobile art buses, which bring art programs to the children of disadvantaged neighborhoods in the Bay Area.
”We are grateful to XYZ for their ongoing support and for hosting this generous exhibit and art event to highlight our work,” said Geoff Benjamin, CEO, Imagine Bus Project. “By giving back to their community and helping to provide art programs for children and teens in disadvantaged areas of the Bay Area, we feel that XYZ is setting a great example for other corporations.”
